Professional
Experience
Venkat has been working as a consultant for PeopleSoft clients
to assist customers in architectural assessment, sub system planning, design
and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks in SQLs, DB2 subsystem, Application
Server and Web Server for PeopleSoft Implementation primarily on DB2/OS-390. He
has a strong experience in performance tuning approaches for PeopleSoft Human
Resources, Financials, Supply Chain, Travel & Expenses, Time & Labor
and various self-service modules. Venkat is familiar with procedures and
processes to isolate, identify and tune the issues in Online, Batch and
Reporting performance
As one of the recognized experts in the field, Venkat has been
at the forefront of designing many PeopleSoft architectures and complex tuning
assignments involving Z/OS
His specific PeopleSoft experience includes design, installation
and performance tuning of Web server (Weblogic and Web Sphere), Tuxedo
application server and stress testing.
Venkat has delivered many ebusiness architecture assessments and
database System audits for various PeopleSoft Customers.
He wrote the first PeopleSoft white paper on Unix Systems
Services to provide PeopleSoft customers with very good basic information on
the proper usage and configuration of USS for a PeopleSoft 8.x configuration.
Co-authored and main reviewer of the red paper titled ‘Implementing Unix system
services for PeopleTools 8’ on the customer connection.
He has a focused expertise in tuning General Ledger Journal Edit
& Post, Allocations and Journal generator batch processes. Also experienced
in tuning large volume Pay cycle manager, Time Admin, Paycalc and Payconfirm
processes.
He is experienced in using PeopleTools traces, ODBC traces,
DB2PM reports, RMF reports and
His clients include many large installations such as Verizon,
State Farm, Caterpillar, Swiss Re, Citigroup, Bearing Point and
He worked as a Consultant for a large banking company in New
York to improve the performance and throughput of batch operations. He
significantly contributed to the company’s cost saving measures, with various
suggestions to improve the performance of a number of applications, which
resulted in savings of over a million
dollars annually. He streamlined the
procedures to convert the databases from old obsolete design to better
performing databases. He migrated the DB2 sub system from Ver 4 to Ver 5.1.2.
Venkat worked as a Consultant for a large utility company in
Philadelphia as an assistant ORACLE DBA,
maintaining ORACLE database. Developed the conversion methodology to
convert the existing legacy data to ORACLE. He learnt the advanced PL/SQL programming
techniques on the job. He also set up common routines that were to be used
across the installation.
Venkat worked as a Consultant for a large insurance company to
redesign the batch interfaces for better performance and throughput. As a member
of the key data model team, Venkat suggested remedies in data model to improve
performance. Functioned as a DB2 DBA for the application. He set up the
disaster recovery procedures for the database. His unparalleled tuning
experience brought down the batch processing time from 14 hrs to 2 hrs of
elapsed time.
During his tenure as a warehouse DBA, Venkat developed design
changes to enhance the existing Data Warehouse system and also provided DBA
support to PROD database. He designed and developed a Copy procedure, which
accepts various parameters, to copy Production data to Test environment while
maintaining the referential integrity, resulting in huge space savings. He
designed a simple Assembler based data encryption technique that eliminated the
need for massive data storage of over 100GB.
In his vast domain expertise, he has worked as a Consultant for
a large medical systems company in Milwaukee to maintain their DB2 sub systems.
He served as a Lead DB2 Strategist for the organization. He also migrated their
sub system from version 2.3 to version 4.0.
During the early days of DB2 V 2.3, when the number of toolsets
available was fairly limited, he wrote an Assembler program that invoked DFHSM
to migrate the DB2 Archive log in DASD to TAPE as soon as the archival is
complete. This eliminated frequent system outages due to unavailable space in
archive volume.
His vast experience also includes automating the software to
author IEF common action blocks / process blocks authoring software in
Assembler to be used across the installation, thereby maintaining an
installation wide standard.
He started very early as a Systems Programmer to perform DB2
database and system administration, Capacity planning, and disk space
management. He served as a Backup MVS administrator. In this capacity he has
been responsible for DB2 installation, migration and upgrades.
He has designed and developed a Database Request System using
ISPF Dialog services that simplified and streamlined the procedures for
maintenance requests made to DBAs and System Programmers. The unique experience
gained in this assignment involving REXX, CLISTS and Assembler programming
actually paved way for his systems programming career.
Prior to his systems programming career, Venkat started his
first job in software development as a Programmer and worked as part of the
team that coded & tested the Order Management Module in CICS, VSAM and DB2.
